bellNotifications

Configure push and email notifications for brew day reminders, fermentation steps, dry hop alerts, and other batch events.

Brewfather can send you notifications for important brewing events such as brew day reminders, fermentation step changes, dry hop reminders, and bottling day alerts. Notifications can be delivered as push notifications to your device and as email.

Accessing Notification Settings

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Under General, find the Notifications row

  3. Click Configure to open the notification configuration modal

Global Enable/Disable

At the top of the configuration modal, the Enable Notifications toggle controls all notifications globally. When disabled, no notifications of any kind are sent.

Below this toggle you will see the permission status:

  • Permission for notifications granted -- Your browser or device has granted Brewfather permission to show notifications

  • Missing permission to show notifications on this device -- You need to grant notification permission in your browser or device settings for push notifications to work

Notification Time

The When to notify setting controls the default time of day for day-based notifications. This is the time that scheduled event notifications (brew day, bottling day, etc.) are sent. Set this to a time when you are likely to see the notification, such as the morning of your brew day.

Delivery Methods

Push Notifications

Toggle Push Notifications on to receive notifications on your device. Push notifications work on:

  • Web browsers that support the Web Push API

  • iOS and Android via the Brewfather mobile app

Push notifications require that you have granted notification permission to Brewfather on your device.

Email Notifications

Toggle E-mail Notifications on to receive notification emails at the email address associated with your Brewfather account. Email notifications are useful as a backup if you might miss push notifications, or if you want a persistent record of events.

Event Types

Notifications are organized into categories. For each event type, you can independently toggle Push and Email delivery on or off.

Per-Batch Event Scheduling

In addition to the global notification settings, each batch has a Scheduled Events section that shows the specific events scheduled for that batch. These events are generated automatically based on the batch's recipe, brew date, and fermentation profile.

From the batch view, you can:

  • View scheduled events -- See all upcoming events for the batch with their dates and times

  • Edit event timing -- Tap an event to adjust when you want to be notified

  • Toggle batch events -- Show or hide the scheduled events section for a batch

  • Open notification settings -- Access the global notification configuration from within the batch

The scheduled events display shows which events are up next and which are upcoming, making it easy to see what is coming in your brew schedule.

Test Notification

At the bottom of the notification configuration modal, the Send Test Notification button schedules a test notification to be delivered within approximately two minutes. Use this to verify that your notification setup is working correctly on your current device.

Tips

  • Check browser permissions -- If you are not receiving push notifications on the web, verify that your browser has granted notification permission to Brewfather. Look for the notification icon in the browser address bar or check your browser's site settings.

  • Set notification time thoughtfully -- The default notification time applies to all day-based events. Set it to a time when you will be awake and able to act on reminders.

  • Use both push and email for important events -- Enable both delivery methods for brew day and dry hop reminders so you have a backup in case you miss one.

  • Brew day reminder vs. brew day -- The brew day reminder fires before the brew day itself. Use it to make sure you have time to prepare your equipment and ingredients the day before.

  • Settings -- Main settings page where notification configuration is accessed

  • Brewing -- The Brewing stage where brew day events are triggered

  • Fermenting -- The Fermenting stage where fermentation step and dry hop events are triggered

  • Brew Tracker -- The brew day timer system that also uses in-app notifications and alarms
